Concreting in the Riverland

The Riverland is our backyard. Our base at Morgan sits right at the western gateway to the region, where the Murray River swings north, so the river towns and irrigated country upstream are genuinely local for us — not a long-haul job loaded with travel charges. The Riverland is one of Australia's great food-and-wine bowls, built on irrigation — vineyards, citrus, almonds and stone fruit stretch along the river under a hot, dry sky. That shapes the work. Alongside town driveways and house slabs, a big share of what we pour is horticultural: packing-shed and machinery floors, tank and pump pads, irrigation infrastructure, hardstands and acreage driveways for working properties. The climate matters too — in the Riverland heat, timing pours and curing the slab properly is the difference between concrete that lasts decades and concrete that crazes or cracks in its first summer.

Pouring in the Riverland climate

Hot, dry, windy conditions pull moisture out of fresh concrete fast, and on the Riverland's sandy river-flat and mallee soils a poorly prepared base will move. We manage both — the right mix and admixtures, pours timed to avoid the worst heat, a properly compacted base, and diligent curing. For the bigger agricultural and commercial slabs we build in the thickness and reinforcement needed to carry loaded trucks, forklifts and machinery, and we get the falls right for wash-down and drainage.
